We know that September is going to be epic. But don’t miss out on this cool stuff in August! 

MKR Dinner with Gareth and Alex – Thursday 4 August

Tapestry Bar is teaming up with MKR’s miner diners to deliver a delicious treat. Enjoy watching the boys cook up a freaking storm in the kitchen via live video feed from the Tapestry kitchen. Among the menu items: coca cola lamb ribs and maple bacon ice cream sandwiches. Tickets $99, email events@fitzys.com

Brisbane: The Ekka – Friday 5 to Sunday 14 August

Everything Ekka is back – the strawberry ice cream, the dudes wearing Wranglers at the Jube, the winds and the mass city-wide flu that hits anyone who attends. If you’ve been to Brisbane lately you’ll have seen the iconic ferris wheel is up and waiting for you. Find out all the Ekka info on their website.

Brewoomba – Saturday 6 August

After a successful debut in 2015 Toowoomba’s beer festival is back; again supported by Tapestry Bar, the Spotted Cow and the Mort Estate Hotel. From 12pm to 9pm you can shuttle through the three venues to sample all the amber all you can responsibly drink. Tickets start at $40.

Poke Picnic Party – Saturday 6 August

Picnic Point will be full of people chasing Pikachu when this family event takes place. Hosted by Pokemon Go Toowoomba, the event is on from 1 to 3pm, bring your food, your chairs and your best Pokemon catching skills.

Economic Insights Seminar with Dr Shane Oliver – Tuesday 9 August

Create Financial Solutions is bringing renowned economist Dr Shane Oliver to town to talk about a whole host of hot topics – like the market outlook, interest rates and property. Other speakers like Toowoomba Chamber’s Leanne Gillam will talk about growth and industry expansion and how this might impact Toowoomba. The evening will run from 5.30pm to 7pm at the City Golf Club. Archè by the Melbourne Ballet Company – Wednesday 10 August

Get classical with a trip to the Empire Theatre to experience the Archè production. Taking inspiration from Swan Lake, the production premiered in Melbourne last year and has been a hit with ballet lovers. Tickets are $56 for adults, packages available for school groups.

Degustation and Cocktails at Firefly – Saturday 13 August

Live music, good food, tasty cocktails. Sound good? Get your crew together and book a table for this special event at Firefly. You can eat the whole menu for $70 or take it down a notch and enjoy seven experiences for $45. Harry Potter Mega Trivia – Sunday 21 August

Take your Felix Felicis and head to The Cube for a Sunday of Harry Potter trivia. Brush up on your books and movie knowledge, there will be questions on both. Prizes for first place, best dressed and lucky door prizes will be on offer. It’s an all ages event; call The Cube on 4632 4747 to book your table before they disappear!

Create Finance Blushing High Tea – Saturday 27 August

Enjoy afternoon tea with champagne on arrival and sweet and savoury treats and a fashion parade at Inbound from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday 27 August. Proceeds from your $70 ticket go to helping breast care nurses and patients undergoing breast cancer treatment at St Vincent’s and St Andrew’s Hospitals.

Heritage Bank Photographic Award Exhibition Opening – Tuesday 30 August

One of the region’s most popular photo competitions opens its exhibition for a month long run (ends Thursday 29 September at the USQ Arts Gallery. Go along to check out the winners and other sharp shots.

Embrace screening – Wednesday 31 August

This Australian doco by Taryn Brumfitt looks at why so many women around the world hate their bodies and what we can do to change this mindset. The Toowoomba screening of Embrace sold out so quickly the ticket allocation was increased twice, and a second screening was added for 5 September. The movie, which features people like Ricki Lake, Turia Pitt and Mia Freedman is about to go global. Watch the trailer here, and find out about the event here.
